Erie Bird Observatory is a small 501c(3) nonprofit founded in early 2018 by three women who, when faced with office closure due to budget cuts, banded together to continue their respective avian research projects. EBO operates mostly along the Pennsylvania shoreline of Lake Erie, an incredibly important area for birds of all species. Their main projects include: continuing the sixty year tradition of migratory bird banding in Presque Isle State Park, monitoring the state's only nesting pair of federally endangered Piping Plovers, and surveying the local watershed area for marshbirds nesting in the summer & waterbird usage in the winter. EBO relies heavily on private donations and membership dues as they are not funded by any other organization.
