About this campaign
This year's Green Acres Farm Sanctuary special edition t-shirt was designed by artist, Green Acres volunteer, and board member Juliana Ybarra, and features Rockstar, our unique Silver laced Polish Rooster. Rockstar came to us seven years ago with his best buddy Mr. G, a Chinese Goose. If you have ever been to Green Acres Farm Sanctuary I am sure you have seen or heard this fun pair.
Proceeds from this year's T shirt fundraiser will be used to build an adoption coop for our "unfit to sell" chicks which have been nursed back to health. Each year before spring even begins shipments of chicks start arriving at the local feed store. These chicks are deemed ?unfit to sell? and then are surrendered to Green Acres Farm Sanctuary. These include chicks with scissor beaks, missing an eye, splayed legs, wry neck or injured from being stressed pecked. Many are so weak from being crammed in boxes and shipped across the country without food or water just hours of being born. In huge hatcheries chicks are sexed immediately after birth and those deemed to be male are destroyed by crushing, suffocating, shredding, or gassing. It is estimated that worldwide 2.5 billion male chicks are destroyed each year. Those who make it to Green Acres Farm Sanctuary are the lucky ones and deserve the best life possible. Last year, 75 chicks were surrendered to us. This year we hope to rehabilitate as many as possible and adopt them into loving homes. Your purchase helps us save chicks that would have otherwise been discarded have the chance at life.
