On Halloween of 2023 Hannah was admitted into the UK Children?s Hospital labor and delivery due to high blood pressure and showing signs of preeclampsia. A week after Hannah was admitted the doctors believed Addi would have a better chance outside the womb. On November 8th, 2023 at 1:44am Addi was born at 26 weeks and 3 days. Weighing only 1lbs 3oz. They knew she was going to be a NICU patient here at the UK hospital for awhile.

Addi could?ve been faced with a lot of health issues being born so early. Fortunately, it was just her breathing that needed assistance. She made herself known as a fighter very fast with the doctors and nurses, jumping every hurdle that was thrown her way. 

Hannah noticed a lump in her right leg on March 14th and brought it to the team?s attention. That is when her incredible staff started working around the clock for scans and tests. She had x-rays and ultrasounds before getting a soft tissue MRI scan. These MRI results caught the attention of the children?s oncology department. On March 17th they were told they believed it was a cancerous tumor. At this time, the staff rushed to get l a biopsy done ASAP. 48 hours later, they got the results from the oncology team. Their 4 month old daughter had been diagnosed with Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive form of soft tissue cancer. 

On March 21st Addi underwent a 4 hour surgery to get things in place to start treatment. She has a Broviac line placed for chemotherapy, a G-tube for feeds when she is not wanting to take a bottle during chemo, and a lymph node dissection/bone marrow biopsy to ensure the cancer has not metastasized.

Update as of April 10, 2024:

Cycle one of chemo is done ? 

Addi had her 3rd round of treatment today and is doing well so far. She gets a bit restless the first night/next day and then tends to be pretty sleepy for a few days after. She starts to recover about 3-4 days after her treatment. 

She is on a 3 week cycle treatment plan. She will have 14 cycles (42 weeks) total so this means we have 13 cycles left after today. We like to count it in cycles rather than weeks. It seems to be less daunting that way. We will likely get scans in 3 weeks after her next cycle.
