Monterey Audubon Society is a symbol of bird conservation in our community and the Heermann's Gull is an important part of this story. With 99% of its population nesting on a few small islands in the Sea of Cortez, they face real dangers like overfishing, climate change, and introduced predators. We have the opportunity to help protect the only other nesting colony in the world. While nesting on rooftops is not ideal for anyone, we are looking toward the future and how we can support this species in thriving.
