Why We?re Taking This Leap of Faith

Our son, Colt, suffered a devastating brain injury at birth called hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), that changed the course of his life before it had even truly begun. That injury has left him living with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, dysphagia, and significant physical limitations. But if you know Colt, you know his diagnoses do not define him. He is here. He is fighting. He is learning. And he is so much more than the limitations placed on him by a piece of paper.

For nearly four years, we have spent our lives fighting alongside him?through therapies, procedures, medications, hospitalizations, surgeries, countless appointments, and more uncertainty than any parent should ever have to carry. We have celebrated the tiniest milestones because we know just how hard Colt has had to work for every single one.

And now, we are ready to take another leap of faith.

We are raising funds to travel to Mexico to pursue Cytotronix/Cytotron treatment and Muse cell therapy, emerging treatments that we hope may give Colt additional opportunities for neurological recovery and function.

We want to be transparent: there are no guarantees. These are not magic cures, and we are not expecting someone to wave a wand and erase what happened to our son.

What we are hoping for is opportunity.

An opportunity for his brain and body to reach more of the potential we believe is still inside him. An opportunity for more movement, more communication, more independence, and ultimately, more choices in the life he gets to live.

We know that taking Colt out of the country for treatments that are still considered emerging is a huge decision. We have researched, asked questions, weighed the risks, and prayed about what comes next. And after everything we?ve been through, we?ve come to one simple place:

If there is a possibility of giving Colt more, we aren?t ready to stop looking.

Our goal isn?t to ?fix? Colt. Colt does not need fixing. He is our son. He is funny, stubborn, loving, resilient, and incredibly strong. Our goal is to give him the best possible chance at the fullest, most independent life his brain and body will allow.

This fundraiser is about more than a trip to Mexico.

It?s about giving a little boy who has already fought harder in his short life than most people ever will another chance to fight for more.

Every shirt purchased, every donation, every share, and every person who helps spread Colt?s story brings us one step closer to Mexico and one step closer to giving him this opportunity.

We don?t know exactly what the future holds.

But we know this:

We are willing to take the leap.

We are willing to have faith.
