About this campaign
Our daughter MJ was born with something called Pierre Robin Sequence. Basically at some point during development her chin/jaw stopped growing which caused a sequence of events - her tongue aligned with her chin (which was too far back), and a cleft palate formed on the roof of her mouth. This caused major difficulties breathing and eating for her, so at 4 weeks old she got jaw surgery that helped correct this defect and then around 10-14 months she will get surgery to repair her cleft palate.
In order to raise awareness for PRS, I created this "keep your chin up" shirt. It was a saying I saw other PRS families use, and I think it's fitting - she will forever have scars on her chin for what she's had to go through, but I hope she rocks them proudly.
The proceeds from the sale will benefit Smile Train. Shortly after birth we were introduced to a full Craniofacial team at Nationwide Children's that is set up to care for her needs as long as she has them, but we realize that this is not the case for many.
Smile Train partners with local in-country medical professionals to provide cleft treatments to patients in their own communities. Their vision is "to give every child with a cleft the opportunity to live a healthy, productive life."
Just $250 is able to give 1 child cleft surgery! My hope is that by selling these shirts and raising awareness for PRS, that a child or two or three will be able to receive this life-saving procedure.
