It may be the middle of the night. The roads may be dark, the weather unforgiving, and the nearest hospital miles away. Somewhere in Lackawaxen, a family is facing one of the most frightening moments of their lives.

They call 911 and Lackawaxen EMS answers.

Our story began in 1956, when local residents recognized that emergency help was simply too far away. Neighbors came together with a promise: when someone in our community needed medical care, help would be close.

That promise still guides us today.

Lackawaxen EMS now serves approximately 10,000 residents across 81 square miles, while also responding to mutual-aid calls beyond the township. From two stations, our crews maintain three ambulances and a quick-response vehicle, ready 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The need has never been greater. Our call volume reached an all-time high in 2025 and continues to grow. Each response requires trained providers, dependable ambulances, lifesaving equipment, medical supplies, and ongoing education. Recent advances in our level of care allow qualified providers to deliver services such as IV fluids, pain management, advanced airway monitoring, and select medications before a patient reaches the hospital.

Behind every call is a person: a parent struggling to breathe, a neighbor injured in an accident, a visitor experiencing chest pain, or a loved one who simply cannot wait.

And behind every ambulance is a community that makes the response possible.
