In February 2024, the Fountain family?s oldest son, Jacob, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After being thrown into the chaos of medical treatments, surgery, hospital stays, referrals, and prescriptions, St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital became a beacon of hope.
Soon after, in April 2024, Jacob immediately began 30 sessions of proton radiation, and in August 2024 returned for another long-term stay so he could complete 40 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen treatment. To this day, the Fountain family continues to travel to St. Jude for follow-up MRIs, ophthalmology, and ongoing blood tests.
During the long days of treatment, whenever Jacob felt fear, he drew strength from his family, friends, medical care team, and the steadfast love of God. The image of the lion and his favorite verse, Joshua 1:9, became a source of courage he could lean on.
That is why the Fountain family created Team Jacob the Lionhearted and joined the St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital mission to end childhood cancer, tumors, and other life-threatening diseases. Together, with family and friends across the nation, they will run for a reason bigger than themselves by fundraising for the kids, like Jacob, and families of St. Jude.
