Just a few weeks ago this sweet boy was born on hard cold floors, to a mama who was stuck in a gestation crate, unable to move around, unable to love on her babies. Just a few days ago he was castrated, his tail clipped short, & his needle teeth pulled. All without sedation or pain medication. Just the other day he was taken from his mama & loaded on a truck with hundreds of other tiny piglets, headed for a fattening barn. But he escaped his fate. By jumping out of a hole in the side of the truck. While going fast down the highway.

Luckily he survived the jump. Luckily a kind woman spotted him and stopped to help. Luckily she found a local shelter who takes in pigs. Luckily that shelter called us.

Now this tiny, 4 week old piglet is safe. He has a full belly. He has a comfortable bed filled with blankets. He has a name. His name is Lucas. And he is so very loved.

It's crazy that this tiny baby can endure so much at the hands of humans and still forgive us. He had only been here for 24 hours and he was already snuggling in my lap & giving me kisses. I don't deserve his forgiveness or love. But it completely melts my heart that he already knows how much I love him eternally.

Baby Lucas liberated himself by jumping off that transport truck to his freedom. His bravery landed him at Kanda Farm Sanctuary where he will be free to live the life he wants and deserves. Everyone deserves freedom, human and non-human. Life is better when ALL are free.
