They?re at it again and in the best way possible!!
Matt with Canine Corps and Stephanie with Stephanie?s Shepherds Rescue, Rehab and Training have teamed up to give another incredible dog a purpose-filled future.
Meet Lilly Bear. She is a Belgian Malinois who was given a second chance at life and now has the chance to change someone else?s life forever!
Some may remember Hans, who began this same journey but had to retire early due to a resurfacing back injury. While that chapter didn?t go as planned, it only strengthened the commitment to keep going.
Now, Lilly Bear is ready.
She was pulled from Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement while heartworm positive and on the euthanasia list. Thanks to Stephanie, she got the care she desperately needed. Today, she is healthy, strong, and medically cleared to begin training as a PTSD service dog for a veteran or first responder in need.
But there?s a deeper story here, one that comes full circle.
Lilly Bear?s trainer isn?t just experienced? he understands.
He?s a former Marine living with PTSD. He knows the sleepless nights, the constant alertness, the weight that never fully goes away.
And he also knows hope.
Because a PTSD service dog helped save his life.
Now, he?s dedicating his life to doing the same for others, training dogs like Lilly Bear to become lifelines for those still fighting battles long after they?ve come home.
They say Marines don?t leave a man behind. This is what that looks like.
- A well-trained PTSD service dog can:
- Interrupt panic attacks and ground someone during flashbacks
- Create space and security in overwhelming environments
- Wake their handler from night terrors
- Bring structure, stability, and a sense of safety
- Ease the weight of anxiety, depression, and isolation
- Stand beside someone when it feels like no one else can
The truth is, the trauma carried by so many veterans and first responders is heavy. It?s often invisible and it?s heartbreaking.
But dogs like Lilly Bear can change everything.
This mission is bigger than one dog.
It?s about connection, healing, and making sure no one has to fight alone.
Every shirt or hoodie purchased directly helps fund Lilly Bear?s training, turning support into something truly life-changing.
Somewhere out there is the person Lilly Bear is meant to stand beside.
And this is where her journey begins.
