In 2022, our family lost our son Abe when he was born at 21 weeks. That spring, Jackie felt compelled to dance grass in honor of her brother. Being new to the circle, we reached out to many people to receive teachings and support for Jackie as she began her journey dancing.
Now that Jackie is older and her time dancing this style for her brother is concluding, she will be moving in a new way in the circle and dancing Fancy Shawl and Jingle beginning at our hometown pow wow in Bay Mills Indian Community.
To honor her time dancing grass and to celebrate this transition for her, Jackie will be hosting a Grass Dance Special at the BMIC Honoring Our Veterans Pow Wow on Saturday, June 27th. She is looking to raise enough money to support her special and provide gifts and prizes to the grass dancers who join her in her special.
So many people supported Jackie when she first entered the circle dancing grass, and many have been following her journey in the circle over the last three years. We hope you will continue to support her and her desire to honor the style of dance that brought her into the circle.
Each shirt purchased will help raise funds to honor the dancers participating in the special hosted by Jackie.
I would like to thank Clarissa Friday from Native Clarity for capturing this photo used in the t-shirt art. I would also like to thank our cousin, Chelsey Cameron, for assisting with the art used for the t-shirt! Miigwetch! Thank you!
