About this campaign
Lion King arrived at our rescue as an 11-pound Chiweenie mix with a reputation that preceded him. He had been called Chomper. Before that, Shredder. Those names fit him at the time.
His owner had passed away in their home. When help finally came, Lion King was still there beside her, guarding her. We don't know how long he stayed.
For nearly three months after he arrived, nobody could safely put a collar or harness on him. He lived in survival mode. What he needed wasn't discipline. It was someone willing to simply sit beside him and wait.
One day, while he was eating, she sat down nearby and stayed. She was honestly terrified. He finished his meal, walked over, and climbed into her lap. It was the first moment he chose trust over fear.
Little by little, everything began to change.
Today, Lion King has a very important job at the rescue. Fearful dogs, reactive dogs, dogs who have forgotten how to trust, they watch him. They see him lean into people for affection. They see him walk calmly beside someone who once couldn't touch him. And slowly, they begin to believe it might be safe to try.
He is a teacher, a comforter, a babysitter, and a therapist for dogs who have forgotten how to trust.
This shirt was designed in his honor. 70% of every purchase goes directly to Hope For Life Rescue to help us say yes to more animals like Lion King.
