At Delaney's Dog we pride ourselves on rescuing dogs who are most in need of rescue. Without regard to size, breed nor ease of placement after rehabilitation, we have worked with and rehomed dogs who have had very little chance of making it out of the shelter alive due to their behavior as a result of the life they were dealt before they were discarded at the shelter. Duke was one of those dogs.
Duke's story:
Duke was adopted out as a puppy from North Central Shelter in Los Angeles, CA only to end up back in that same shelter 5 years later absolutely terrified and unable to be handled by shelter staff. He was fear and kennel aggressive. He literally soiled himself in such fear when humans would get near him. He was immediately slated for euthanasia because of his behavior. This was around Christmas time one year when a shelter volunteer reached out to us to help him. We couldn't turn our backs on him and I personally went and broke him out of there. He was emaciated, terrified and clearly traumatized. I (the owner and President of Delaney's Dog) personally took care of him and worked with him on a daily basis. He never showed even an ounce of aggression towards me because he knew he was safe. He spent years with me as my right hand guy. He helped work with other behavioral dogs and was my most loyal and protective companion until that fateful day, 6 years later, when he passed away in my arms due to a sudden onset of bloat that took him within minutes from me.
Duke rescued me as much as we rescued him.
He will be forever in our hearts and forever....Notorious...
