Heaven Can Wait Animal Society, an animal welfare organization, was formed in 2000 with the idea of building a 20 acre sanctuary to house all of the unwanted animals in our community. After doing their research on how best to support animal welfare, HCW found that animals were being euthanized at a rate of around 30,000 per year in local shelters. Efforts were refocused away from rescue and toward promoting spay/neuter as the solution to the tragic pet overpopulation problem.
HCW is now a leader in the city for high-volume, high-quality, low-cost/no-cost spay and neuter services for companion animals and community cats. They are a much-needed resource for those who aren't able to afford sterilization services at regular veterinary prices, and for cats without homes to receive medical care that never would have happened without trap-neuter-return programs.
Amazingly, over the past 25 years, Heaven Can Wait has spayed/neutered 200,000 cats and dogs, and euthanasia rates have dropped from the devastating 30,000 a year, to 1,200 a year, proving that spay and neuter services save lives every day.
