It?s been 12 months since Pearl fought her way out of the slaughter house, breaking thru a plate glass window then evading the butchers that literally followed her down the road. It?s heartbreaking to think of the fear, exhaustion and confusion she felt that day, and about the plight of the rest of her flock.

After running around downtown Chicago for awhile, a wonderful group of animal advocates in various roles helped her get to her happily ever after. Angela and her team at Animal Control helped make sure Pearl didn?t go back to the slaughter house, Chicago Chicken Rescue gave Pearl immediate shelter, and Christy at Precious Cargo transported here.

A few weeks later Chicago Animal Control found Molly wandering around and asked if we could take her too. This was kismet: sheep aren?t comfortable solo, so Pearl needed a roomie just as much as Molly needed a home. Plus Molly is part golden retriever, so in addition to being great company she?s helped show Pearl that not all humans are bad.

One year in: they are safe and loved. They?re inseparable. They munch on grass and willow leaves all day, play and run in the field, then snuggle in the deep straw the barn to chew their cud and snooze.
