The concept of the Repair Cafe was invented in Amsterdam by the environmental journalist Martine Postma. Why a cafe? Because the concept was not only about sustainability but also of community building. By offering guests the hospitality of a cup of coffee while they waited for their turn a repair cafe becomes not just a repair shop but a community center.
