I made VILE, my solo contemporary clown show, in Summer 2023, and then toured it to 3 Fringe Festivals in Providence, Minneapolis, and Indianapolis. This year, I'm returning it home to Philly.
I'm so proud of this show & I have had so many meaningful connections and conversations with audiences when I've performed it - I know it's worth sharing. But self-producing is expensive!
Proceeds from this T-Shirt sale and campaign will help me cover essential costs of putting up this show, including props & costumes, logistics, festival fees, collaborator fees, rent, and of course the pizza that I will eat with my feet during every show. My goal is $2,000, with a stretch goal of $3,500. When you buy a shirt, I get $10-12 of that purchase. (The rest covers the cost of the shirt.) You can add a donation on top of that, if you like - but it is not required!
All donations over $50 will receive a hand-drawn thank you card from me.
If you'd prefer to donate directly and not get a shirt, you can do so here or here.
Every purchase and contribution helps immensely. Thank you!
More about the show:
VILE is a solo theatrical work by Francesca Montanile Lyons that blends clown, buffon, and personal storytelling to grapple with the performer?s experiences of PMDD and consent violation. The clown?s journeys through the overconsumption of media, products and food through a series of physical acts that ride the line between pleasure and disgust, and between clowning and performance art. It ends in a cathartic exchange between performer and audience that champions hope, acceptance, and connection.
Here's some of my favorite audience feedback:
- ?This is an important show. It takes on rape culture in a way that lets the audience in gently, and consistently balances comedy and drama so that we are not afraid to laugh or gasp.?
- ?A technical masterclass in clown & bouffant performance! A mirror to today's society. Everyone should see this show.?
- ?For a long time I didn?t think I liked comedy, but after seeing the show I now think I?ve just mostly seen men do it.?
Performance Dates (Spread the word!!):
- September 13th, 15th, 19th, and 25th in Philadelphia
- Asian Arts Initiative - Cannonball Festival 2025 - Philly Fringe
