Sheltie Day at the Park NJ began as a simple gathering of shetland sheepdog (shelties) lovers as a way to connect and have fun. The first picnic was held in 2013 and was led by Julie Canzoneri, founder of TSSSR (Tri-State Shetland Sheepdog Rescue), a well-respected rescue advocate. The fun gathering helped raise funds for her sheltie rescue organization. When she unexpectedly passed in 2014, our TSSSR group gathered for a picnic in remembrance of her. After the closing of TSSSR, we decided that one of the best ways to honor our friend Julie was to continue to hold our annual picnic and fundraise for the shelties and support a rescue that was dear to her. That rescue is Heart's Promise Sheltie Rescue in New Castle, PA, founded by Mike Lamont. He does fantastic work in sheltie rescue providing vet care and foster homes for shelties in need. He has facilitated many adoptions of shelties that had nowhere else to go and are now living wonderful lives with their forever families. This is what rescue is about. This is what Julie was about. And this is what Heart's Promise is about. All proceeds from our annual picnic and the purchase of our picnic tees and tops go directly to Heart's Promise, helping to rehabilitate and rehome the breed we love so much. Because every sheltie deserves a loving home. (You can also find our group on Facebook under "Sheltie Day at the Park NJ". Please consider supporting the cause by making a purchase, and/or come to the next picnic, 8/22/26.) Thank you for your support! Every dollar makes a difference in the life of a sheltie. In USA's 250th anniversary year, "We the People" are "We the Shelties".
