Emerald "Emmy" Miller was just 13 years old.

She loved to dance, sing, and had a remarkable talent for art. She loved theater and had a gift for turning every new acquaintance into a new friend.

She was a cherished friend, a beloved daughter and granddaughter, and a loving sister and niece. She filled our lives with laughter, creativity, and kindness.

On January 19, 2026, our family lost Emmy to suicide.

Emmy's story is heartbreaking, but sadly, it is not unique. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among children ages 10 to 14.

No family should ever have to experience this kind of loss.

In Emmy's memory, we are participating in the Out of the Darkness Walk with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Alongside thousands of families across the country, we are walking to honor loved ones, raise awareness, support research, and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

We cannot change what happened to Emmy, but together we can help write a different story for someone else's child.
