I?m currently navigating a complex neurological and spinal health journey that began when I was diagnosed with Chiari malformation at age 16. I underwent two brain surgeries in 2009 and 2010 to relieve pressure on my brainstem and restore normal cerebrospinal fluid flow. While the second surgery provided significant relief for many years, my symptoms have progressively returned and worsened.
I now have what my neurosurgeon has identified as Complex Chiari, along with persistent tonsillar herniation and impaction, cerebellar ptosis, a retroflexed and hypermobile odontoid, basilar impression, and a large pseudomeningocele resulting from my previous surgeries. He is also highly concerned about craniocervical instability (CCI) and believes my hypermobile odontoid may be repeatedly contacting my brainstem. I have also been diagnosed with Occult Tethered Cord Syndrome and live with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), POTS, MCAS, and significant neurological and autonomic symptoms.
These conditions have affected nearly every part of my life, causing chronic head and neck pain, severe fatigue, headaches, vertigo, cognitive difficulties, problems with balance and walking, difficulty swallowing, shortness of breath, gastrointestinal dysmotility, and other neurological and autonomic symptoms.
After reviewing my case and imaging, my neurosurgeon in New York has recommended extensive diagnostic testing and a posterior fossa revision surgery to address complications from my previous Chiari decompressions. The surgery would include removing portions of my cerebellar tonsils and repairing the large pseudomeningocele using my own tissue to give my dura the best chance of healing properly. If testing confirms significant craniocervical instability, I may also need a craniocervical fusion approximately two months later.
Because this specialized care requires travel to New York, extensive testing, surgery, hospitalization, recovery, and significant time away from work, the financial burden is substantial. I am raising funds to help cover these medical and related expenses and make it possible for me to access the specialized care I need.
I personally created these designs as a reflection of the things that have carried me through difficult seasons?hope, kindness, resilience, and faith. Every purchase supports my medical fundraiser, and every share, purchase, and word of encouragement means so much to me.
Thank you for helping make my surgery and recovery possible, and for being part of this journey with me. ??
