Manomet Conservation Sciences began as a bird banding station in Plymouth, MA over 50 years ago, and was founded by Kathleen (Betty) Anderson?a self-taught ornithologist and inspiring educator. She was a woman that was truly ahead of her time, and she set Manomet up to be a leader in science for decades to come.

Now it's 2025, and Manomet staff are working on the ground in 10 countries across the Western Hemisphere to reverse the decline of shorebirds, strengthen coastal habitats, and empower the next generation of naturalists.

Along with our rich history of conservation, Manomet has a long-standing commitment to engage local partners in collaborative work. We know that in conducting the best science (including monitoring, measuring, and data analysis) on the ground with local staff and local community involvement, engagement and support, we are making a global impact to bring about positive change.
