At Move to Amend, we?re organizing across the country to end corporate rule and challenge the outsized influence of money in our political system. Our goal is clear: to pass the We the People Amendment (HJR 54)?a constitutional amendment that would abolish corporate constitutional rights and overturn the doctrine that money equals free speech.

These legal fictions?created by Supreme Court decisions?have two major harmful effects. First, by granting corporations constitutional rights similar to those of people, corporations have been empowered to challenge laws intended to protect workers, communities, the environment, and public health. This corporate personhood allows them to operate with unchecked power, often at the expense of everyday people.

Second, the doctrine that money equals speech permits corporations and wealthy interests to spend unlimited sums on political campaigns and lobbying efforts, drowning out the voices of ordinary citizens. This has turned our elections into auctions, where the highest bidders shape policies that benefit corporate profits rather than the public good.
