This Year?s Theme: We Keep the Fires Lit: Rising Through Milk Medicine
Our 2026 theme honors Indigenous lactation as an expression of continuity, collective care, and living cultural practice. Fire represents responsibility, tending what sustains life: our knowledge, our families, and our future generations.
Even amid hardship and shifting challenges, Indigenous communities rise through brilliance, adaptation, and relationship. First foods carry memory and medicine forward, nourishing not only our bodies and our babies, but the continuity of our communities.

2026 Featured Artist
Julianne Denny (Cree, Ojibway, Mi?kmaq)
This year?s IMMW shirts feature artwork by the talented Julianne Denny (Cree, Ojibway, Mi?kmaq), a multidisciplinary Indigenous artist, lactation counselor, and birthworker who raises her family in the Rocky Boy community. Julianne's roots stem all the way to Membertou First Nation in Nova Scotia, Canada. Her artwork for IMMW 2026 beautifully captures the essence of connection, kinship, and the strength of Indigenous families.
Artist Inspiration
?I was inspired by my Native American Church practices for this artwork ? the fireplace in the morning when the sun is rising ? the most sacred moment of the day when women bring in water ? when the fire holds hues of blue and purple over white hot glowing charcoals ? the smell of cedar burning.? ?
