On August 11, 2026, our lives changed forever when our two-year-old son, Taj Museitif, was diagnosed with B-ALL Leukemia, a form of blood cancer. In the weeks leading up to his diagnosis, Taj developed a limp that gradually became more noticeable. Eventually, he was unable to walk on his own. A few weeks prior, Taj had experienced a fall, so when his limp continued to worsen, we believed he may have injured a ligament or sustained an injury from the fall. On August 10, we took him to urgent care to have him evaluated. X-rays came back negative.
Later that same day, we were able to see Taj?s pediatrician, who urgently ordered blood work. Just an hour later, we received the call no parent ever wants to hear: we needed to take Taj to Children?s Wisconsin immediately.
After four long hours in the emergency room, multiple blood draws, an IV, and countless questions, Taj was admitted to the hospital. The following day, August 11, his diagnosis was confirmed: B-ALL Leukemia.
Everything changed from that moment forward. Over the next several days, Taj underwent extensive testing and blood work while battling extremely high fevers and receiving a constant rotation of medications. He remains unable to walk on his own.
On August 13, Taj had a port placed beneath his collarbone, with the catheter leading directly into his heart. This port has become an essential part of his treatment, allowing him to receive chemotherapy, medications, IV fluids, and other necessary care. That same day, Taj began his first chemotherapy treatment.
Since beginning this journey, Taj has endured 3 bone marrow biopsies, 6 blood transfusions, 5 platelet transfusions, and 33 days of chemotherapy?and counting. His treatment journey is expected to last approximately 3?5 years.
Through everything, Taj continues to show an incredible amount of strength. He is facing something no two-year-old should ever have to endure, yet he continues to fight each day surrounded by the love of his family.
Our journey is far from over, but we remain hopeful. We are taking it one day, one treatment, and one milestone at a time, believing in brighter days ahead for our little fighter, Taj.
