Cecilia was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in June, two days after her third birthday. After a five-day hospital stay, we returned home to a new life, in a club we never wanted to join. But we've learned a few things: people don't know much about this disease, but they certainly THINK they do. Second, Type 1 Diabetes affects every corner of life, both for those with the disease and the ones caring for them. And finally, kids are more resilient than we give them credit. Type 1 Diabetes means more travel, more appointments, more pokes and more uncertainty for our family. But Breakthrough T1D means we don't have to walk or fight alone. They work constantly to advance?treatments,?influence policy, and improve access to care, with the ultimate goal of finding a permanent solution for this disease. A world in which our daughter can eat without worry, exercise without fear and live without the uncertainty of what her glucose levels will do .. wouldn't that be the dream!
