Here's the bad news:

Drowning is a real problem in Texas. More than 5400 Texans died from unintentional drowning during the 15-year period of 2006 to 2020. That's more than one Texan a day. Compared to other states, Texas had the third highest number of total unintentional drowning deaths, and in 2020, Texas had a higher total number of fatal drownings and higher death rate due to drownings than all 14 prior years.

In Texas:

• Infants under 1 year old most often drowned in bathtubs.
• Children 1-4 and 5-14 most often drowned in swimming pools.
• Teenagers 15 years and older most often drowned in natural waters.
• Adults of all ages most often drowned in natural waters.

Here's the good news:

We're joining forces to put an end to it. Comprised of like-minded individuals, organizations and companies, the Texas Water Safety Coalition (TWSC) is working to create a Texas where EVERYONE is safe in, on and around water.
