The Stonewall Uprising began in the early morning on June 29, 1969. That night, police raided the Stonewall Inn in NYC, a popular gathering spot for LGBTQ+ people. As the police began violently arresting the patrons, the crowd outside grew to over 500 people. They began throwing bricks, bottles, or anything they could get their hands on at the police. The community took to the streets for the next five days, chanting "we want freedom now" and "Christopher street belongs to the queens".

One year later, on June 28, 1970, thousands of people marched on "Cristopher Street Liberation Day", marking America's first Pride march.
