Wally Walnut was born unexpectedly at the sanctuary in June 2021. We rescued his mom, Cashew, along with his two older siblings, Mac and Pistachio, several months earlier. We suspected Cashew was pregnant as she had previously been part of a hoarding situation where there were also male alpacas, but a blood test and an ultrasound came back negative.

One afternoon, a pile of black goo was spotted in the alpaca paddock. We thought it was a bird at first, but upon closer examination we found a very small, long-legged cria (baby alpaca). Mama Cashew had just given birth to the sweetest, most unexpected little angel.

Wally has made so many people happy in his year of life. You can't see him and not smile. He's got a HUGE personality in his little body.
