In 2024, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor that was accidentally found on an MRI. I had a left temporal lobe tumor the size of a tennis ball. This led to moving back to PA, what seemed like a multitude of imaging/appointments/prep, scheduling radiation/chemotherapy, and in the OR all in a two week period. I was awake for a portion of my brain surgery and remember it. I was surrounded by an amazing set of doctors, nurses, scrub technicians, and neurology specialists. I was supported by my former Neonatal ICU team at Dolly Parton Children's Hospital, family, friends, and amazing community. I found out two days before Christmas that my diagnosis had a much more positive outcome than expected. My family would always say "You KAN do it!" throughout my athletic and academic career. My initials are "KAN" which inspired this great use of literary encouragement and inspired my donation profile's name and apparel logo.
I was blessed with a good diagnosis which allowed me to return to work less than a year post-op with UPMC CHP OR Team. I found an interest in neurosurgery and continue to work to help other families/patients feel peace in a stressful time.
I will be running the 8K in Philadelphia. I am asking for any donations that goes directly to this society. My goal is $750.00. I appreciate you greatly!
