This design features a cup of chayi (tea), a pothos plant, and a small bowl containing five pills: these are abortion pills! The mifepristone and misoprostol sit alongside typical items in Iranian homes, including Black Jasmine tea, colorful Turkish bowls and glass teacups, and plenty of plants. This tablescape is meant to represent the ordinariness of abortion and reproductive autonomy, and connect reproductive justice issues to Iranian and Southwest Asian culture.
The slogan of the Kurdish resistance movement?Woman Life Freedom, or Jin Jiyan Azadi in Kurdish?is placed alongside each item, including the slogan's translation into Persian (and Kurdish, if you look closely at the tea bag). This slogan has been used by Iranian-Kurdish feminist movements since the 2022 murder of Jina "Mahsa" Amini, which ignited the largest feminist uprising in Iran's history. As the United States and Israel continue illegal war, occupation, and genocide on Iran, Palestine, and Lebanon, "Woman Life Freedom" serves as a reminder that our reproductive experiences are more similar than they are different. Abortion liberation for all, from Tehran to Topeka!
