The Gallery ATX is a woman-powered, Austin-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit devoted to amplifying underrepresented artists through exhibitions, markets, partnerships, and community-rooted programming. We collaborate with local businesses, contract artists and creatives, and create high-touch, culture-forward events across the city.

Volume 6 of The Gallery ATX's Mujer Manifesto Zine is about ?Metamorphosis".

In exploration of the internal shifts that define us, "Metamorphosis" seeks to archive the evolution of the self and the continuous process of becoming.The prompt is open to interpretation, but possible lenses include: internal shifts, changes in perspectives, the pang of leaving or returning, shedding old skin, and the continuous rebuilding of self.

Along with a zine and group exhibition held at Moontower Cider Co, Austin, TX on July 28th, 2026, our community voted for the artwork featured on our limited edition tee: "Dance of Migration" by Alena Duckworth.

Dance of Migration depicts the literal metamorphic evolution life takes, highlighting the fluidity of life and identity to show how closely related we are to everything around us. Painting the Common Loon and the Sockeye Salmon are a nod to my Canadian roots as well as the resistance of community against ICE terrorism and the strength needed to swim upstream against a fascist and evil institution that perpetuates this pain. The symbols mirror my personal metamorphic changes as my identity shifts between water and air, rising above for a higher perspective then diving deep for feeling and insight. The circular composition illustrates the interconnection between all struggles for liberation and how supported we are by the earth in this evolution. The water and the air are indistinguishable from each other, one and the same, the ingredients to create life. 

Alena Duckworth?s career began in makeup, face painting and body painting. Using herself as her canvas and becoming interested in surreal and otherworldly themes through makeup, she transitioned into watercolor and acrylic painting. Growing up in British Columbia, Canada, Alena began creating at an early age and chose not to pursue a formal art education. Instead she practiced self teaching methods and learned from her community and peers. Now, living in San Antonio she has been a full time artist for the past four years. She wields a diverse set of skills including airbrushing, mural painting, sign painting, body painting, prop fabrication and sculpting. Her work has been featured in several group exhibitions and galleries in Central Texas. Alena?s recent work and current focus cross many mediums as she continues to create pieces with surreal and fantastical elements that carry reflections that are both personal and political.
