About this campaign
At Chehaw, conservation starts at home and reaches far beyond our gates. Every visit, program, and animal encounter helps inspire a deeper connection to wildlife and the natural world.
Through this fundraiser, your support directly helps protect wildlife in two important ways: half of all proceeds will support conservation projects working to preserve species and habitats, while the other half helps sustain Chehaw?s daily operations, including animal care, education programs, and maintaining the spaces where our community connects with nature.
The cheetah is the world?s fastest land animal and one of Africa?s most vulnerable big cats. Once found throughout much of Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia, cheetah populations have declined significantly due to habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and reduced prey availability. Today, fewer than 7,000 cheetahs remain in the wild, living primarily in fragmented habitats across sub-Saharan Africa, with a small population surviving in Iran. Conservation organizations and zoological institutions are working together to protect cheetahs through habitat conservation, research, and breeding programs that help ensure the species? long-term survival. Chehaw has exhibited Cheetahs since 1997 and assists AZA's Cheetah SAFE Program by housing non-breeding animals.
